I can haz Townie!

Elektra Townie Plus Dorktastic Knitter

This is the newest addition to Casa Fabulous, an Elektra Townie 3 Holiday. There is also a new pink helmet because the old one was dead, and a totally nifty bag from Chrome which you can’t see because it is sort of on my back, but trust me, it’s excellent and way more comfy than wearing a backpack if you have a heavy load. Which I do, back and forth to school. I put the bike on layaway before Christmas and finally paid it off this week after chipping away at it bit by bit. Delayed gratification can be pretty darn gratifying, let me tell ya! Then I rode it 5.8 miles up the big mofo hill from downtown to my place up in the foothills. Which is probably the most consecutive exercise that I’ve had in a while, lemme tell ya. 😀

I could not be happier. I got the bike because it is featherlight, much more so than my old beach cruiser, yet still has that comfy cruiser styling that I prefer. The front rack is great for hauling stuff (I plan to get a wine crate to bungee into the rack) and I’ve got panniers for the back rack that fit a conventional grocery bag on each side. Some happy cargo space there, which is totally why I wanted it. I’d like to start minimizing the carbon footprint a bit and saving some money this summer. Seems like a good time.

Not to mention, it will keep my heart healthy and probably help manage to live with a pastry student without gaining so much weight that I have to buy new pants. I don’t mind a few extra pounds, but I just bought a bike, I can’t afford new pants!

I’m also totally gratified by the interest in the Basket O Shame Along! We have a bunch of members on Ravelry and several via the blog, its very cool! We’re going to have fun and get a lot of our backlog of knitting done while we’re at it.

That bike is seriously AWESOME! I really want a bicycle but there is absolutely nowhere to ride it here… stupid Georgia and its lack of both bicycle lanes & sidewalks.

I’m thinking that I’ll probably have to join your basket of shame-along because I have a serious amount of WIP’s that are growing spiderwebs in the corner.

I’m so proud of you! And it looks like a great bike.

I’ve decided I’m going to learn how to ride a bike this spring/summer (had to do with being sick as a kid, the only girl in a family of 6, and an overprotective mother–enough said).

I’d love a bike like that one.

Oh cool! Off to check out the Elektra Townie.
    (((hugs)))

Wow, yay for bikes! I’m so excited for you. I’ve been riding in LA ever since moving here in ’05, and while biking here has its share of suckitude it’s totally worth it! I’m always thrilled to see another cyclist on the streets!! You totally rock.

That’s one snazzy bike! I’m going to have to look into getting one. I’m impressed you found a place that offered layaway, too. Do you mind sharing which shop you got it from (that sentence feels so grammatically awkward, sorry)?

I’m envious… DH has a townie and I love when I get a chance to ride it!
