Olveras Street’s Dia De Los Muertos celebration was in full swing this weekend.
Skellies came and danced in the crowd to spoken word and instrumental music. Ofrendas were set up around the square. It was a jolly day and you could really sense the connection between the living and their beloved dead as you walked about the perimeter of the square.
The only downside for me was, there were a bunch of people wearing Yes on 8 shirts and carrying signs at the square during part of the celebration, and I got so angry I was kind of paralyzed by tears and incoherent rage. I wanted to scream. I can’t even be rational about this one anymore. I’m out of reasoned debate.
I entreat people to vote NO on Prop 8. Do not amend the Constitution of this state to include discrimination and hatred.
